One of the most remarkable holidays in Belarus is the Victory Day. It is traditionally celebrated on 9th of May. The holiday marks the victory of USSR (Belarus was a part of soviet bloc since 1919 till 1923) over Nazi Germany. This war was one of the bloodiest one, which was also on the territory of today’s Republic of Belarus and the holiday means much for older generation. Every year on this day a lot of parades and celebrations are hold across Belarus. Schoolchildren give flowers and presents to participants of the war (called “veterany” in Belarus).
